My Inspiration

If you are reading this, you are most likely a person I have contacted because I wanted to interview you for my upcoming book, God Loves Them Too. Feel free to look around and keep yourself informed about my progress. I hope you get involved, or check out the book after it's been published. At this time, I have no deadline set, so I don't know when this book will actually come out. I have been inspired and encouraged by the stories I've already collected, though, so I'm very excited to see where it will lead me and what I will learn along the way!

I wanted to briefly share with you my inspiration for writing this book:

When I was in college, I had a professor who several times shared a quote in class from the author Anne Lamott. She says:

“You can safely assume you've created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do.”

Yeah. Let THAT sink in! I think that speaks volumes, even to people who don't believe in God. It always stuck with me, but I didn't realize how guilty I was of putting God in a box until one day about a year ago when I was driving down the road, deep in thought after a meaningful conversation with a good friend. I thought about the many, many people in the world who do or don't believe in God, or who try not to think about it. I thought about the many things God is to people--a mean dictator, a generous genie, a weak old man, or a happy, but childish idea.

I believe in God. I also believe that God loves everyone, but the moment that I let myself truly imagine a God who looks down at every. single. one of these people--the ones that adore Him, the ones that hate him, the ones that use him, the ones that ignore him--and He LOVES them--the moment I let myself truly imagine and believe that, I cried. I haven't been the same person since.

My hope is that some day, that moment will occur to everyone who believes themselves to be a follower of God (you don't have to shed tears though--that part is optional!). You will never think of God the same way again. You will never think of humans the same way again. I humbly pray that God will allow this book to be that moment for someone. But even if not one person read this book, my life will be changed writing it--and it will be worth it just for that.
